Programs are held at the Main branch of the Wayne Public Library & Wayne residents get preference for sign-up availability. Registration can be done online by visiting the Event Calendar above, beginning at the designated time on the registration date.

NOTE: If you are unable to attend a program, please kindly call the library in advance. This will allow others on the waiting list to attend the program, as well as prevent waste of materials.

2019 Young Adult Summer Reading Club

Registration begins on June 18 @ 9AM

Pearl Observatory: The Planetarium Experience

Yoga Magic

Tuesday, July 30, 2019 from 1:00—1:45 PM

Debi, our yoga instructor, will teach the benefits of yoga. Learn about your own energy and become aware of an ancient art that can help your focus. Please bring a large towel or mat.

Morris Museum presents Musical Instruments from Around the World

Wednesday, July 31, 2019 from 12:00—12:45 PM

Sometimes a cappella is not enough—so what can we use to make music besides our voices? Participants will experience a multi-sensory exploration of music by seeing, hearing and touching instruments as diverse as the Brazilian cuica, Polynesian pu’ili sticks, American Indian flute, and a German zither, and learn a bit about the culture that created each instrument.

Open to Wayne children entering kindergarten—8th grade. Register online beginning Monday, July 22nd at 7:00 AM.



WPL Y.A. Chess Club

Thursday, August 1, 2019 from 5:30—6:30 PM

Come and develop your strategic skills and challenge a new opponent. Wayne young adults entering grades 5—12 are welcome to play chess against our chess mentor Mr. J or each other.

Wayne JDroids Robotics Institute

Friday, August 2, 2019 from 3:30—5:00 PM

Wayne kids entering grades 3rd—5th are welcome to join us as we introduce to you the world of robotics with STEM/JDroids/FTC/Worlds. You will see a demonstration of our State Championship robot and participate in a design challenge.

Caryn Lin: Bach to Rock The Science of Sound

Monday, August 5, 2019 from 11:00—11:45 AM

Starting with a simple Bach minuet, this program demonstrates the simplicity of the solo acoustic violin and its origins and ties to present day technology. Caryn uses the five string electric violin and sound effects to transcend that “solo” sound by “looping”—creating sound loops live that she embellishes—playing live duos and trios with herself!

CommuniTeens Meet! Awesome Aliens!

Smoothies

Wednesday, August 7, 2019 from 2:00—3:00 PM

With Miss Sara, Health Science Educator at Rutgers University School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, we will taste and learn about all the different ways you can make delicious and nutritious smoothies that can be an energy booster.

The Hubble Space Telescope: Our Solar System, Our Galaxy & Beyond

Friday, August 9, 2019 from 2:00—3:00 PM

Mr. Windish will show us some of the amazing photographs and discoveries made with the Hubble Telescope over its lifetime. After our talk, we’ll go outside and look at the sun through a solar telescope, weather permitting.

Math Tricks

Tuesday, August 13, 2019 from 3:00—4:00 PM

Sakshi & Miriam, fellow CommuniTeens, will teach us some math tricks. You can learn handy back to school warm up math tricks to make mental math easier.

3D Printing Funshops

Thursday, August 15, 2019 from 2:00—3:00 PM

Please come and learn about the amazing world of 3D printing. Noah will show the children how he designs 3D objects using SolidWorks and then they will see how these objects come to life as they are printed right before their eyes! Lots of time for Q&A for curious minds.

2019 Y.A. Summer Reading Club Finale

Presenting Captain Marvel!

Place: Children’s Department Story Time Room
Let’s celebrate the end of another great Summer Reading Club at the Wayne Public Library with Captain Marvel! Carol Danvers becomes on of the universe’s most powerful heroes when Earth is caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Pizza and make your own sundaes!
Movie is rated PG-13 and runs for 2 hours and 13 minutes.
Open ONLY to Wayne Young Adults entering grades 6—12
that have logged at least 5 hours in the Summer Reading Club.
You can register online for the finale as soon as you are eligible.



Teen Snacks

Friday, August 16, 2019 from 3:00—3:45 PM

Learn how to make a delicious snack! Natalie, MS, RD, the Retail Dietician from ShopRite of Wayne, will teach us how to make a yummy treat. Open to Wayne young adults entering 5th through 12th grade.

Teen Creates:Kumihimo Bracelets

Monday, August 19, 2019 from 1:00—2:30 PM

Come and make a cool craft with Sara. She will show us how to Kumihimo. The definition in Japanese is; the gathering of threads. Kumihimo is a form of Japanese braiding using various types of stringing material, and the possibilities are endless! Open to Young Adults entering 5th through 12th grade. Online registration starts Monday, August 5th at 7:00 AM.



Songwriting Workshop

Tuesday, August 20, 2019 from 11:00 AM—12:00 PM

Come and explore the art of crafting a song with Bach to Rock! Learn song structures and how lyrics and melody work together in a musical composition! Everyone can participate in this creative program! Open to Young Adults entering 5th through 12th grade.
