How do I get a library card?
The Wayne Public Library is open for use for everyone. To check out books or others materials, a patron must have a card registered in the Wayne Public Library or PALS Plus Library system. Anyone who lives in or owns property in Wayne is entitled to a free library card, which must be renewed every three years. A non-resident who does not live in a reciprocal or open borrowing area who attends school or works in Wayne is entitled (with student identification or proof of employment) to a "Courtesy Card" at no charge for a period of one year, and this card may also be renewed as long as the cardholder maintains their student status or employment in Wayne. Any card which is not used within a one-year period and which does not have an overdue or fine attached will become invalid and must be reapplied for. Apply for a Library Card

Can I access my account from home? 
Yes, all you need is your Wayne Library Card number located underneath the barcode on your library card and your 4 digit PIN that is created when an individual signs up for a library card. Then visit our Pals Plus Enterprise Catalog and click MY ACCOUNT. If you have forgotten your PIN you will need to stop by the library with your library card and photo id for the staff to look up your account information. The staff cannot reveal your PIN over the phone or through email. 

How long is the check out period and may I renew?
DVDs, video games, museum passes and widgets may be borrowed for 7 days. Television Series DVDs and Periodicals may be borrowed for 14 days. Books, music CD's and audiobooks may be borrowed for 21 days. Other materials will circulate for 21 days. All materials, except museum passes and widgets, may be renewed provided there are no HOLDS on the item(s). Please see our Circulation Policy for further information.

How do I renew my materials?
Using your library barcode number you can renew via the telephone, on line from any home computer or in person at the library. For assistance visit the renewal page.

How do I place a hold on an item?
There are numerous ways to reserve an item. One is by asking a staff member to place it for you. You may also place it yourself by way of the online library catalog computers in the library or on the web site. Click for complete instructions for placing holds on online.

How much are fines?
Inter-library Loans are $0.10 per day. Museum passes and widgets are $1.00 per day. Wayne Residents only.  

Where can I return my materials?
All materials can be returned during library hours at the Main Library located at 461 Valley Road, Wayne, NJ. When the llibrary is closed materials may be returned via the book drop located in the front of the Library.

Does the library accept Book Donations?
The Friends of the Wayne Public Library accept donations of new and gently used books. Both hardback and paperback titles are accepted for adults and children. The Friends cannot accept donations of text books, encyclopedias, or condensed books. Persons wishing to donate books may drop the books off at the garage entrance of the Library Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM year round. Donations of magazines, DVDs, Music CDs, audiobooks and puzzles (with no missing pieces) are also accepted.

Does the library provide Internet Access?
Yes, the library provides public computers for in house Internet access with the use of a Wayne Public Library Card and Wireless Internet Access via Wi-Fi.

Does the library have a meeting room?
Meeting rooms are available, when not being used for library programming.

If the library does not own an item that I would like to borrow, can the library get it for me?

There are several ways for the library to obtain an item you wish to borrow:
  1. If it is a newly published item and you are a Wayne resident, you can fill out a request for the library to purchase it. Forms are available at the Adult Reference Desk or click on the email us link and send us your suggestion.
  2. If a newly published item is owned by one of the libraries in PALsPlus, you can visit that library to borrow the item.
  3. If a book is owned by one of the PALsPlus Libraries and is not considered a new title you can place a hold on the book and have it sent to the PALsPlus Library of your choice.
  4. If the item you seek is not new or owned by any of the libraries in our PALsPlus System and you are a resident of Wayne Township, you may complete an Inter-library Loan request. We will try to locate the item and arrange to have it shipped to Wayne Public Library. Inquire at the Adult Reference Desk for further information.
I do not know how to use the library catalog, can a librarian help me?
Stop by the Adult Reference Desk any time for assistance with using the online library catalog.

I am having trouble accessing an online database from home....can I call for help?
You may call the Adult Reference Desk for assistance with any of Wayne Public Library's Home Access databases. We are available for assistance during library hours. 973-694-4272 Ext. 5401.

I have to write a research paper and do not know how to begin, can a librarian help me?
Please stop by the Adult Reference Desk and speak with a librarian for assistance with finding the correct materials you will need to write your research paper. We are happy to help!

I have never used a computer and would like to learn, does the library have computer classes?
