Programs are held at the Main branch of the Wayne Public Library & Wayne residents get preference for sign-up availability. Registration can be done online by visiting the Event Calendar above, beginning at the designated time on the registration date.

NOTE: If you are unable to attend a program, please kindly call the library in advance. This will allow others on the waiting list to attend the program, as well as prevent waste of materials.

Art Kids Academy Summer Workshop

Monday, July 17, 2017 from 12:15—1:15 PM

In this year’s summer reading program “Build a Better World: Signs of Peace,” we will create an original artwork based on the visions of Peace and friendship theme. Students will learn about different symbols from around the world that stand for peace. Open to Wayne Y.A.s entering grades 6—12.

The Butterfly Guy

Monday, July 24, 2017 from 11:00—12:00 PM

Rick Mikula, the Butter Guy will show students the secrets of butterflies. Students will learn how to raise butterflies and moths at any time of year by using simple recyclable household items. He’ll teach them secrets of butterfly gardens to attract these flying jewels of the sky. Open to children and Y.A.s of all ages.

Book Buddies

Thursday, July 27, 2017 from 2:00—2:45 PM

Book Buddies is a drop-in story time for one hour. Stay as long (or little) as you like. Y.A.s entering grades 6 & up are the “Reading Buddies”. They will read to small children during this hour. Open to children ages 3 & up.

The Hands-On Magic Workshop

Magician, Jim Vagias bring to us a Magic Workshop that inspires all. Be ready to learn some magic tricks, as we explore useful resources at the library, gain knowledge about the ancient art of magic! Open to Wayne Y.A.s entering grades 6—12.

Meet Local Author Louis Romano

Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 2:00—3:00 PM

Louis Romano will talk about what inspired him to write the book Zip Code. He grew up in the South Bronx housing project and went the same elementary school that Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United State, Sonja Sottamayor. The reality is that growing up in this neighborhood they we were not expected to be successful. This inspirational book is about how hard work and study triumphs! Young Adults entering grades 6th — 12th are welcome.

Knitting 101

Young Adults entering grades 6—12, are you interested in learning how to knit? Come join us as we relax and learn the basics together. Feel free to bring in your own knitting needles and yarn. Supplies are available thanks to generous donations. Please note: some knitting needles have pointy tips so use with care.

Snapology: Star Wars Lego Program

Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 12:00—1:00 PM

If you love Star Wars this is the class for you. Come and have fun and learn about Star Wars with this fun activity. We will build movie scenes, ships and lightsabers, you name it….May the force be with you. Open to Wayne Y.A.s entering grades 6—12.

WPL YA Chess Club

Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 6:00—7:30 PM

Come and develop your strategic skills and challenge a new opponent. Young adults entering grades 6—12 are welcome to play chess against our chess mentor Mr. J or each other.

It's Scrabble Time

Are you a skilled Scrabble wordsmith? Come challenge yourself and have some fun! Scrabble is an enjoyable way to develop vocabulary skills! Young Adults entering grades 6—12 are welcome to play Scrabble against each other or with secret guest players.

Teen Summer Snacks

Wednesday, August 9th, 2017 from 2:00—2:45 PM

Come join us and learn how to learn how to make a summer snack!  Natalie Gillett (Nachef), MS, RD, the Retail Dietitian from ShopRite of Wayne will teach us all the steps you need to know for this recipe. Open to Young Adults entering 6th through 12th grade. *Please be aware this may not be an allergy-friendly program.

Edible Arts: Barn Raising

Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 1:45—2:45 PM

Miss Suzanne and Miss Marianne from Edible Art will help you create your own barnyard. Ever thought of how it would be to live on a farm? Come join the fun and build your ideal barnyard in the library. It’s the easiest way to milk the cows and feed the pigs! *Allergy note: although none of the items used contain peanuts, some have been processed in a facility that also processes peanut, nut or tree nuts items. Please note the barn is processed in a facility that processes peanuts, unfortunately there is no substitute of this item in the project. Open to Wayne Y.A.s entering grades 6—12.

2017 End of Summer Reading Club - Young Adult Finale!

Must participate in the Summer Reading Club to register.

Tuesday, August 15th, 2017 from 1:00—3:45 PM (approx.)

Place: Meeting Room at the front of the WPL Let’s celebrate the end of another great Summer Reading Club at the Wayne Public Library. We will enjoy a slice of pizza and ice-cream and watch Warcraft. Warcraft, Rated PG-13, ©Universal Studies Home Entertainment, 2016. As an Orc horde invades the planet Azeroth using a magic portal, a few human heroes and dissenting Orcs must attempt to stop the true evil behind this war. (2hrs. 3min.)

Full Program lasts approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes.
Open ONLY to Wayne Young Adults entering grades 6—12 that have logged at least 5 hours in the Summer Reading Club.

You can register online for the finale as soon as you are eligible.

Make A TeePee Tealight Holder

Let’s celebrate summer! We will choose some festive colored yarns and design a Teepee Tea Light. They are beautiful as a decoration, or a table light accessory. Open to Young Adults entering 6th—12th grade.

Communiteens Meet

Fun, friends, and food! We will participate in some fun ice breaker games and collaborate with our peers on a creative project. Open to Young Adults  entering 6th—12th grade.
