Fall Story Times 2017

Register online from the Events Calendar by clicking on the date of the program and title of the event.

Fall Story Time Sessions will begin the week of September 25th, 2017 and continue through the week of November 13th, 2017.

**NOTE: There will be No Tot-Time and Ravenous Readers on Monday October 9th due to Cloumbus Day and No Picture Book Story Time and Tot-Time on Tuesday, November 7th due to Election Day.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES:
  • Online registration begins on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 7:00 a.m. Register online by clicking on the Events calendar for the week of September 25th to the left or visit Events above. Sessions are open to Wayne residents only with a valid WPL card. Class size is limited, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Please try to be on time.
  • Sessions will only be held if three or more children are in attendance.
  • If you cannot attend weekly Story Times, please inform the Children's Department staff, so that others on the Waiting List may attend.

Kids Helping Kids - Open to students in elementary, middle and high school who attend Wayne Schools.

Tuesdays & Wednesdays 2:45 - 4:30 P.M. from Sept 2017 Date to be announced. 

Wednesday Evenings: 5:30 - 7:15 PM - Location Story Time Room - Main Library

Tutoring services by the Wayne Valley High School National Honors Society will take place in the Children's Department of the Main Library for the middle school and high school students who attend Wayne schools. Students may attend one or both days. Sessions will not be held when there is no school in Wayne. You must email:wvalleynhs@gmail.com for more information.

Read to a Dog

Wednesday, September 27, 2017 from 4:00—5:00 PM

Children ages 5 through 10 will build confidence and improve reading skills when the therapy dog they read to listens to their stories. Two therapy dogs will be on hand to listen carefully. They will not criticize or correct, but will patiently allow the child to read at his or her own pace. Each child will read from his or her own book for about 10—15 minutes.

Not sure what to pack in your lunch bag? Miss Natalie, ShopRite dietician, will teach children how to make a fun, easy and nutritious snack that they can make themselves!

Monster Hunt Adventure!

Friday, October 6, 2017 from 4:15—5:45 PM

Children in grades 1st—4th will participate in a grand adventure as they track down and capture a lurking monster! In the process, learn research skills, employ deductive reasoning, and work cooperatively. Every participant has his/her own clues to find and proceeds at his/her own pace, so everyone succeeds, and is rewarded with a Monster Detective Badge! Snacks will be served. Register online beginning Monday, September 25th at 7:00 AM. 


Special Needs Acrobatics Class

Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 10:30—11:10 AM

Zig Zag Acrobatics will be here to hold an adapted tumbling class for children with special needs. The adapted class provides an opportunity for children with motor delays, developmental delays and social & emotional regulation difficulties to engage in a fun, social and skill oriented class!

Open to children ages 6—12. Register online beginning Thursday, September 28th at 7:00 AM.

Pumpkin Painting & Story

Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 4:00—4:30 PM (approx.)

B.Y.O.P.: Bring Your Own Pumpkin! Kids are invited to decorate their pumpkin. We’ll provide the brushes and paint and you bring the creativity!

Chess Club For Kids

Kids can learn the game of Chess! Have fun while learning a game that uses math, logic, and problem-solving skills.  Open to Wayne children in grades 2nd—4th. The Chess Club meets once a month at the library.

Spooky Spooktacular With Slime!

Wednesday, October 18, 2017 from 6:00—7:00 PM

Experience a Mad Science Halloween Spectacular! Join us as we explore amazing science experiments with a twisted and spooky theme! Freaky Fog, Floating Eyeballs, melting witches and creepy crawlers, oh my! Don’t miss this spooked-out salute to science, perfect for your Halloween celebrations! Each participant will make gooey slime to take home!

Halloween Craft

Monday, October 23, 2017 from 6:30—7:00 PM

Children are in for a treat as they have fun creating their own Halloween-inspired craft with Miss Melissa. We will read a spooky story and create a unique craft for children to take home. Children will also leave with a special Halloween treat! Parent/guardian must stay with child to help complete the craft. For Wayne children ages 3—7. This program consists of a storytime yoga for kids with sing-along poses.

BookFace Photo Contest

Contest runs Sunday, October 1st – Sunday, October 29th

In celebration of Teen Read Week Wayne children in grades 3rd–5th can send us their best Book Face! Be creative and replace your face with a book cover and send us your picture. Email your BOOKFACE photo to jorgensenl@waynepubliclibrary.org by October 29th!

Please use in the subject line: BOOKFACE and include name, grade and phone/email in the message. Winner will be contacted on October 30th.
