2017 Summer Reading Club- Build a Better World!

In Person Registration Begins Tuesday, June 20th

CHILDREN ages 2 – entering 5th grade READ or be READ to!  Earn chances to win prizes and get special coupons! Don’t miss out on a fun-filled summer of crafts, programs and music!
You must register in-person for the Summer Reading Club.

Registration begins Tuesday, June 20th at 9:00 AM. The last day to sign-up is Friday, August 4th. The club ends on Friday, August 11th at 4:30 PM. No logs accepted after that time.

Stop by the Children’s Reference Desk at the Main Library to register and receive your reading log!

Summer Story Times 2017

Register online from the Events Calendar by clicking on the date of the program and title of the event.

Summer Story Time Sessions will begin the week of June 26th, 2017 and continue through the week of August 7th, 2017.

**NOTE: There will be No Tot-Time and Story Times, Itsy Bitsy the week of july 3rd. There will be no Itsy Vitsy and Tot-Time on Tuesday, July 18th. They are re-scheduled for Friday, July 21st at the same time.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES:
  • Online registration begins on Monday, June 12th, 2017 at 7:00 a.m. Register online by clicking on the Events calendar for the week of January 23rd to the left or visit Events above. Sessions are open to Wayne residents only with a valid WPL card. Class size is limited, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Please try to be on time.
  • Sessions will only be held if three or more children are in attendance.
  • If you cannot attend weekly Story Times, please inform the Children's Department staff, so that others on the Waiting List may attend.

Tutoring services by the Wayne Valley High School National Honors Society will take place in the Children's Department of the Main Library for the middle school and high school students who attend Wayne schools. Students may attend one or both days. Sessions will not be held when there is no school in Wayne. You must email:wvalleynhs@gmail.com for more information.

Chess Club For Kids

Kids can learn the game of Chess! Have fun while learning a game that uses math, logic, and problem-solving skills.  Open to Wayne children entering grades 2nd—4th. The Chess Club meets once a month at the library.

Create The Statue Of Liberty With Art Kids Academy

Monday, July 17, 2017 from 11:00 AM—12:00 PM

Kids will create their own Statue of Liberty painting as they learn about the history of this amazing statue that stands in the Hudson River. Open to Wayne children entering grades 2—5.

Picture Book Craft Club

Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 2:30—3:00 PM

Why did the cow climb the tree? Find out when we make an adorable craft inspired by the picture book The Cow Who Climbed a Tree by Gemma Merino. This bimonthly program will feature some of the very best picture books, which will inspire children to create a one-of-a-kind craft. Open to Wayne children ages 3—7. Parent/guardian must stay with the child to help complete the craft.

Winterfest in July

Join us for all things winter, in July!  We’ll make a craft, play games and decorate a cookie!  It will sure feel like winter has arrived! Open to Wayne children entering grades 2nd—5th. Space is limited.

The Butterfly Guy

Come and enjoy “The Butterfly Guy” — Rick Mikula! “The Butterfly Guy” returns to the Wayne Public Library to share his expertise about these beautiful creatures, along with his various butterfly collections from around the world. Open to children ages 3—12.

Join us for a craft, movie and snacks!  The film follows the journey of a spirited teenager named Moana as she meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui, and together they traverse the open ocean, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds. Movie is rated PG and runtime: 1 hour 47 minutes. Open to Wayne children ages 5—10.  Space is limited.

Book Buddies

Book Buddies is a drop-in story time for one hour. Stay as long (or little) as you like. Y.A.s entering grades 6 & up are the “Reading Buddies”. They will read to small children during this hour. Open to children ages 3 & up.

Build A Better World: Magic Show!

Mr. Gallagher will perform a happy, lively presentation of songs and music. This concert will be held outside (weather permitting), otherwise it will be held in the library’s meeting room. Open to Wayne children of all ages!

Snapology: Minecraft Workshop

Travel to the Nether with Snapology, but watch out for those creepers!  Come join us as we bring Minecraft® to life using Lego® bricks.  Create your own world, including animals, creepers and your very own Lego® Minecraft® character. Open to Wayne children entering grades 3rd—5th.

There are big changes brewing in Gotham, but if Batman wants to save the city from the Joker's hostile takeover, he may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up. Maybe his superhero sidekick Robin and loyal butler Alfred can show him a thing or two. Open to Wayne children ages 5–10.

Dancing Giraffe Craft with Miss Melissa

Get ready to boogie down giraffe-style at our Dancing Giraffe Craft! Children will listen to the story Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andrae and create their very own dancing giraffe. Open to Wayne children ages 3—7. Parent/guardian must stay with child to help  complete the craft.

Build An Edible Campground

Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 12:30 – 1:00 PM

Come join Miss Marianne and Miss Suzanne from Edible Art in an adventure of the great outdoors from the comfort of the library. Using everything edible we will build a one of a kind campground. Complete with tents, camp fires and sleeping bags.  No mosquitos allowed! *Allergy note:  although none of the items used contain peanuts, some have been processed in a facility that also processes peanut, nut or tree nut items. Open to Wayne entering grades 2nd– 5th.

Dinoman is Dinomite! Children's Summer Reading Club Finale

Monday, August 14, 2017 from 11:00—11:45 AM

This high-energy, educational show takes children and their grown-ups on a trip through the Mesozoic Era. Using inflatable, life-size dinosaurs and more, Dinoman answers questions about dinosaurs, leaving audiences with a deeper appreciation of the distant past. 

Open to Wayne children who have completed at least 10 books or 4 hours of reading.

This program will be held at Wayne Valley High School Auditorium.

Fun with Colors with Miss Melissa

Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 10:30—11:00 AM

Join us as we explore the wonder of color! Children will listen to a colorful story and have fun experimenting with color mixing. Parent/guardian must stay with child. Washable paints will be used so please dress child appropriately. Open to Wayne    children ages 3 — 6.
